Tenuta Monte Gorna: how Etna creates!
Tenuta Monte Gorna is a family-run business driven by a pure passion for the land and for wine, a passion handed down from father to son for three generations. All production and work phases, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, are carried out with the same respect for the land and traditions with which the first generation began, showing dedication and affection for the hard work performed over the years.
Lying on the slopes of Mount Etna, at an altitude of 760 meters, in the Càrpene district—one of the 133 Etna districts where DOC wines are produced—along the Etna Wine Route. A place of wild beauty, immersed in the regional park. The estate takes its name from one of the extinct craters that surround Etna and trace the profile of the volcano's southeast slope.
Nestled between the two extinct craters, Monte Gorna and Monte Ilice, surrounded by oak and chestnut woods and a multitude of broom, with the sea in front and the majestic Etna behind, the vineyards of Tenuta Monte Gorna are planted with Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio for the production of Etna Rosso, and Carricante and Catarratto for the production of Etna Bianco, the base grape varieties of Etna DOC. The vineyards, cultivated for over ten years using the organic farming method, are enclosed by powerful dry-stone wall terraces that represent the historical memory of an ancient rural landscape. The soil, formed from the decomposition of lava, is sandy and rich in skeleton, organic matter, and minerals. The proximity of the vineyards to the woods and the sharp temperature range between day and night promote the perfect ripening of the grapes, giving Tenuta Monte Gorna wines great personality and typicality.
