The Magmatic Character of Nerello: Power and Elegance

A muscular yet perfectly balanced body, supported by silky tannins and an unmistakable savory freshness. This Etna Rosso is a liquid journey on the slopes of the volcano: ruby red with garnet highlights, it releases a complex bouquet where fruit meets the Mediterranean scrub and bare volcanic rock.

  • 🌋 Magmatic and Mineral Background: The roots delve into pure volcanic sands (7,000 vines/ha), lending the wine mineral echoes of graphite and a fresh, savory note that extends the persistence of the sip infinitely.
  • 🌱 Traditional Etna Blend: The union of Nerello Mascalese (80%) and Nerello Cappuccio (20%) ensures the perfect synergy between tannic structure and aromatic elegance, with yields intentionally limited to 5,600 l/ha.
  • 🧑🍳 Artisanal Vinification: Fermentation takes place in red in open vats for 8 days. To preserve the authenticity of the fruit and its structural integrity, the wine undergoes no filtration before bottling.
  • 🍷 Complex Aging: One year of maturation in steel, with one-third of the mass resting for 3 months in wooden barrels, completed by 6 months of bottle aging. This process layers the aromas: first blood orange, tamarind, and juniper berries; then leather, eucalyptus, rosemary, and a spicy finish of black pepper and cloves.

🍷 The Taste Ambassador recommends:

As this is a whole and strictly unfiltered wine, I suggest uncorking it at least an hour before serving or using a decanter to let its tannic muscle oxygenate. Let it release its notes of tobacco and liquorice! The perfect local pairing? A wild boar ragù or aged cheeses like Ragusano DOP, which can stand up to its spiciness.

Quick FAQs

Why might I find residue at the bottom of the bottle?
This Etna Rosso DOC is intentionally unfiltered so as not to deplete its aromatic profile and structure. A light sediment at the bottom is a sign of absolute authenticity and artisanal craftsmanship that respects the raw material.

Is this an industrial production?
Absolutely not. We are talking about a true niche production ("boutique winery"): to give you an idea, in the 2022 vintage, Tenute dei Ciclopi produced only 8,300 bottles of this wine.
